About Us

Opus Pathology was founded in 1960 as an independent physician owned and operated pathology laboratory in Middle Tennessee. On January 1, 2020, we changed our name from Pathology Consultants of America to more accurately reflect our mission. Opus is a Latin word referring to a work of art. The term magnum opus evokes a masterpiece or ones’ greatest achievement. At Opus Pathology, we take enormous pride in our work and believe this name aligns with our goal to provide the highest standard of care.

Quality and customer service are our main focus at Opus Pathology. All our pathologists are board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and serve as medical directors at hospitals and independent laboratories throughout the areas we serve. Our reputation for quality is supported by our ability to meet or exceed the requirements of multiple regulatory and accrediting agencies and organizations. Opus Pathology participates in the CAP laboratory accreditation program and has CLIA certification through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Our pathologists also serve as CAP laboratory inspectors and are members of the Tennessee Medical Society.

To ensure personalized service, a pathologist or customer service representative is always available for consultation, interpretation, or collaboration with clients. By partnering with hospitals and developing relationships with their medical staff, our pathologists are equipped to understand and prioritize patient’s needs. This ultimately translates to better clinical outcomes, while simultaneously controlling costs.

Opus Pathology offers a comprehensive array of personalized diagnostic services both in-house and through our network of specialized referral laboratories. Our pathologists’ subspecialties include breast pathology, cytopathology, dermatopathology, gynecologic pathology, head and neck pathology, hematopathology, neuropathology, surgical pathology, thoracic pathology, and urologic pathology. In addition, we offer a molecular oncology test menu for solid tumors and hematologic malignancies which includes immunohistochemical stains, flow cytometry, fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH), cytogenetics and next generation sequencing (NGS) panels.

Managed care contract coverage is available with all major payors. Pathology reports are accessible via our online portal, fax, or through an electronic health records (EHR) interface. Online bill payment is also available for patient convenience.
