We offer a range of services for the diagnosis of breast pathology which includes digital analysis for ER, PR and Her2/neu immunostains. Her2/neu FISH testing for borderline cases is available. We keep statistical data which monitors the percentage of ER and PR positive and negative tumors in pre and post menopausal women as per CAP guidelines. All final tumor resections will include the complete synoptic staging format.
We offer a range of cytopathology services. These include pap smear and non-gynecologic cytology interpretation. Fine needle aspirations (FNAs) can be performed by a pathologist upon immediate request or can be scheduled. We have specialty pathologists who offer their services specifically in this arena.
A range of services for the diagnosis of skin tumors and diseases of all types is performed daily. Utilizing the professional subspecialty training of our partners at Vanderbilt Dermatology, our dermatology specimens are processed at Opus Pathology and diagnosed by one of our dermatolopathology partners at Vanderbilt. Special studies for skin cases includes special stains, immunostains, and immunofluorescence for bullous diseases.
Endocrine organ evaluation including thyroid fine needle aspirations, biopsies, and surgical resections are available. Parathryoid, adrenal and pancreatic biopsies and excisions are also commonly reviewed.
We offer neuropathology specialty services for the interpretation of brain biopsies both for benign and neoplastic conditions. Special studies include immunostains and FISH studies performed in conjunction with our partner reference laboratory.
Biopsies throughout the gastrointestinal tract are commonly evaluated for functional, allergic, pre-cancerous, and infectious disorders. Colon cancer tumors are tested for MMR proteins to rule out Lynch Syndrome. Further molecular testing is available through our partner reference laboratory. Non-resectable gastric adenocarcinomas are tested for Her2/neu staining. Proficiency testing for Her2 in gastric carcinomas is performed bi-annually.
We offer both special stains and immunostains for the diagnosis of gynecologic benign, viral, and malignant conditions. These same studies are offered for urinary biopsies, but we also offer urine FISH studies for the diagnosis of bladder tumors in the urine.
Pap smears are reviewed on-site with the technical component services provided by our lab partner, LabCorp. Ancillary testing for HPV and other infectious diseases can be provided. Our pathologists participate annually in pap smear proficiency testing and CME testing.
We offer bone marrow biopsy and aspiration services utilizing the skills of several of our pathologists. These are scheduled during daily business hours. These same cases are read out on-site with additional services including flow cytometry, cytogenetics, FISH studies and molecular studies performed at a partner laboratory. The final pathology report will reflect a combination of morphology and ancillary testing results to diagnose a variety of hematologic conditions. Lymph node analysis for both benign conditions and lymphoma are commonly performed and utilize the same ancillary testing.
Liver biopsies are evaluated for viral, genetic, and infectious diseases. Special stains and immunostains are often used in evaluation of these difficult processes. Pathologists assist daily in hospital liver biopsies to evaluate for adequacy.
Lung biopsies for tumor diagnosis are performed daily and utilize immunostains for aid in classification. FISH and molecular studies are available on solid tumor tissue from the formalin-fixed tissue block. Pulmonary disease, reactive/infectious processes and benign conditions are also commonly reviewed.
Head and neck pathology is commonly evaluated for various conditions including malignancies. Lymphoma protocols are performed on all lymph nodes suspicious for lymphomas. Oral squamous carcinomas are commonly tested for HPV origin. Oral lesions are enjoyed by our pathologist with directed interest in this area of expertise.
Podiatric pathology for bone or skin lesions is available. Evaluation for nail fungus is available.
Soft tissue and bone tumors are supported by an array of special stains and immunostains. FISH and molecular studies are available on soft tissue and bone tumors and are supported by an array of special stains and immunostains. FISH and molecular studies are available on formalin fixed tissue and cytogenetics can be performed on fresh tissue.
We are well versed in interpretation of tumors and disease processes and have a wide array of special studies to assist us in tumor and disease differentiation.
